Helping scientists make the transition to industry

An upcoming workshop by Lifescience Alley seeks to provide the skills to succeed in business.

Lifescience Alley, a trade association representing Minnesota's health care industry, will hold a training workshop to help prepare scientists to make the transition from academia to industry. It is scheduled for May 18 at the University of Minnesota's Coffman Memorial Union. The idea is to help scientists, who might have a strong technical foundation in their field, gain a greater understanding of the skills needed to succeed in the medical industry. The workshop will introduce 24 business "competencies" that are valued in industry and relate them to postdoctoral research experiences. It will also work to help scientists recognize the business skills they may already possess. The program is intended for postdoctoral fellows, graduate students and business and clinical professional students who are planning eventual careers in the medical industry. Cost of the program is $75 for members, $140 for non-members – if registration is received before May 11. After May 11, registration will cost $95 for members and $160 for non-members. Full-time University of Minnesota students may register free oF charge. Go to https://www.lifesciencealley.org, or call (952) 542-3077 for more information.
