The same cold front ushering cooler air into the Northwest this weekend is setto provide the Plains with heat relief early next week. The cold front will first bring noticeable cooling to the northern Plains onMonday. Temperatures throughout this region will be held 10 to 20 degrees belowSunday's highs.

The arrival of Monday's cooler air will definitely be welcome. Highs throughoutthe northern Plains will soar into the 90s on Sunday. Parts of South Dakota, including Rapid City, will crack the century mark. Howling winds will usher inthe hot air, leading to a heightened fire danger.

The cooler air will then settle into the central Plains on Tuesday. The coolair's arrival will especially be noticed by residents of eastern Colorado andwestern Kansas. Not only will highs in the upper 60s that day follow Monday'ssizzling 90-degree heat, but also a chilly rain will pour down.

The cool air, however, will be quick to leave. As West Texas and southern NewMexico welcome heat relief on Wednesday, temperatures will rebound elsewhereacross the High Plains.
