Gophers women-Wisconsin game preview

Gophers at a glance: The Gophers (11-10, 3-4 Big Ten) have been wildly inconsistent lately, sandwiching an excellent performance in a victory over Michigan State between two poor showings in losses at Michigan and Nebraska. Coach Pam Borton said her team's biggest problems have been self-inflicted, and she is stressing the need to take control over correctable issues such as turnovers and missed layups. Freshman guard Rachel Banham has scored in double figures in 17 consecutive games, the third-longest streak in the Big Ten; she continues to lead the Gophers in scoring at 15.4 points per game and has failed to reach double digits only twice this season. Forward Jackie Voigt, who suffered a concussion when she struck her head on the floor in the Nebraska game, is listed as day-to-day.

Wisconsin at a glance: It's been a challenging season for the Badgers (6-13, 2-5), who have lost eight of their past 10 games and are tied for ninth place in the Big Ten standings. They have the second-lowest scoring average in the league (57.8 points per game). They do, however, have a five-game winning streak against the Gophers. Guard Taylor Wurtz (15.4 points per game) is the only player with a double-digit scoring average. Banham's prep teammate at Lakeville North, 6-4 F Cassie Rochel, is averaging 14.5 minutes per game coming off the bench.
