Dani Cameranesi scored two third-period goals and Sidney Peters made nine saves for the shutout as the No. 2 Gophers women's hockey team defeated St. Cloud State 3-0 on Friday night at Ridder Arena in WCHA women's hockey.

Kate Schipper, a senior from Brooklyn Park, gave Minnesota (9-1, 7-1) a 1-0 lead with a goal at 11 minutes, 28 seconds of the opening period. It was her first goal of the season. Cara Piazza got the lone assist. Schipper scored the winner from the edge of the blue paint.

Cameranesi, a wing on the Gophers' red hot first line, made it 2-0 at 7:47 of the final period. And the senior got her team's third goal — and her seventh of the season — at 17:49 of the third on a power play.

Linemate Sarah Potomak had the first assist on both those goals, giving her nine this season.

Peters, meantime, had a quiet night. She stopped three shots each period while Janine Alder made 36 saves for the Huskies (3-6-1, 2-5-1-1), who lost the first game of this series 5-2.

The remaining schedule is favorable, but their hopes of a late-season run were dulled by a home loss to the Terrapins.
