BEMIDJI, MINn. - Hannah Brandt's goal with 7 minutes, 14 seconds left in the third period — her second goal of the game — broke a tie and sparked the Gophers women's hockey team to a 4-3 WCHA victory over Bemidji State on Saturday.
The victory was the 57th consecutive for the Gophers (8-0, 6-0 WCHA), who trailed 2-1 late in the first period.
Brandt's first goal came 29 seconds into the game. But the Beavers (3-4-1, 0-2-0) got goals from Jenessa Philipczyk and Lauren Miller to take a 2-1 lead with 4:56 to play in the first period.
The Gophers' Kelly Terry scored with eight seconds left in the opening period to tie the score 2-2. Rachael Bona's early second-period goal gave the Gophers a 3-2 lead.
The Beavers tied the score at 3-3 on Hanna Moher's goal at 4:08 of the third period.
The Gophers, who were outshot 11-7 in the first period, outshot the Beavers 24-10 over the final two periods for a 31-21 shot advantage.
Amanda Leveille had 18 saves for the Gophers, Brittni Mowat 27 for Bemidji State.
The Gophers were 6-0 against the Beavers last season, including a 3-2 overtime victory on Feb. 16 that extended their winning streak to 40 games.
