MANKATO – Maryanne Menefee, Hannah Brandt, Dani Cameranesi and Kelly Pannek each had a goal and two assists as the No. 2 Gophers routed Minnesota State Mankato 7-1 on Saturday afternoon in a WCHA women’s hockey game to sweep their weekend series.
The Gophers won the first game of the home-and-home series at Ridder Arena 7-3 on Friday night with Menefee scoring a hat trick.
On Saturday, Brandt got the Gophers (21-1-3, 14-1-3-1 WCHA) going with her team-high 22nd goal of the season at 1 minute, 26 seconds into the game. Rachel Bona and Kelly Pannek also scored in the opening period for a 3-0 lead.
Menefee, Cara Piazza and Cameranesi had second period goals as the Gophers took a 6-0 lead.
Hannah Davidson ended Amanda Leveille’s shutout bid with a goal for the Mavericks at 6:05 of the third period. Leville made 11 saves. Brianna Quade, who gave up a seventh goal to Lee Stecklein with 1:28 left, had 41 saves for the Mavericks (2-19-1, 0-15-1).
This was the Gophers’ 23rd victory in a row over Minnesota State Mankato — including four this season — and improved their lead in the all-time series to 69-3-3.
