The Gophers dropped the first two sets before rallying for a 20-25, 23-25, 25-17, 25-17, 15-11 volleyball victory over Iowa on Saturday night in Iowa City.
Tori Dixon had a career-high 23 kills in 41 attempts (.488 percentage) for the eighth-ranked Gophers (15-2, 3-1 Big Ten), who are 1-1 in five-set matches.
Ashley Wittman had 15 kills and hit .326. After hitting .162 in the first set and .111 in the second, the Gophers hit .409 in the third set and .444 in the fourth. Iowa's Alex Lovell led the team with 18 kills.
10K records fall
Team USA Minnesota runners Jonathan Grey and Danielle Stack broke course records at the TC 10K, part of the Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon weekend. Peterson, of Minneapolis, clocked 29 minutes, 58 seconds on the course that started and finished at the State Capitol, smashing the course record by more than two minutes. Stack, also of Minneapolis, clocked 35:21 breaking the women's standard by nearly a minute.
U swimmers win
Freshman Daryl Turner won two individual events and swam on two winning relays for the Gophers men's swimming and diving team in a 190-95 dual-meet victory over Arizona State at the Aquatic Center. … The Gophers women also beat the Sun Devils 107-94. Tess Behrens won the 100- and 200-yard backstrokes and swam on the winning 200 medley relay. Sophomore Kierra Smith won the 100- and 200-yard breaststrokes.
