The Gophers men's hockey team is taking a hands-on approach to the renovations at Mariucci Arena.

Goaltender Eric Schierhorn and forward Darian Romanko helped demo the locker room walls underneath the 23-year-old arena. The moment was captured on the team's Instagram account with both players swinging a sledgehammer into the old concrete block walls.

Don't worry, Schierhorn and Romanko wore safety helmets and goggles on the construction site (watch the video below).

The demolition began last week and is the first step of renovating the locker rooms, equipment room and athletic training areas, and adding a new team lounge and video room. The $5 million project was privately funded and is expected to be completed before the 2016-2017 season.

The remaining schedule is favorable, but their hopes of a late-season run were dulled by a home loss to the Terrapins.
