Homegrown Randy Breuer will have his Gophers jersey retired No. 45 at halftime of Saturday's game against Illinois at Williams Arena.
The 7-3 Breuer, a high school star at Lake City, led the Gophers in scoring, rebounds and blocked shots his final three seasons with the Gophers. Breuer played from 1979-83 and helped the Gophers to a Big Ten title in 1982.
The center was a two-time first-team All-Big Ten selection and is one of five Gophers with more than 1,000 points, 500 rebounds and 150 blocks. He's third in career scoring (1,777 points) and second in blocks (229).
After leaving the Gophers, Breuer played 11 NBA seasons, including three with the Timberwolves.
