Gophers tackle Jonah Pirsig returned to practice Tuesday after missing the past three games because of a sprained left ankle.

The team listed Pirsig as "out" on the team's weekly injury report, but coach Tracy Claeys said it's possible the senior will play Saturday against Purdue.

Referring to Pirsig and cornerback Zo Craighton (unspecified injury), Claeys said, "We'll see how they do on Tuesday and Wednesday for practice, and then hopefully they'll get cleared Thursday morning."

Green update

Seth Green continues to run the scout team during this redshirt season.

"I think from where Seth was when he got here last January to where he is now is really exciting," offensive coordinator Jay Johnson said. "I think his throwing and all that has greatly improved, and he's always been very sharp mentally.

"I'm telling him to prepare like he's the starter because there's going to be an opportunity for somebody here come next year. So it's good to see him really prepare like he is the guy. I think that'll pay off for him down the road."

Williams update

The Gophers' other true freshman quarterback, Mark Williams, has been running routes as a receiver while he rehabs from a hand injury. Williams still might make that a permanent position switch.

"He's a great, talented athlete, and so we think he'll definitely help us somewhere," Johnson said. "I think we're going to re-evaluate that at the end of the year."
