Gophers sweep Iowa in volleyball

The Gophers volleyball team, ranked sixth in the nation, swept Iowa 3-0 (25-23, 25-18, 25-15) Sunday at Maturi Pavilion.

It was the 11th sweep of the season for the Gophers (17-2 overall, 6-2 Big Ten). Iowa fell to 14-7, 3-5.

The Gophers are tied for third in the Big Ten, behind Penn State and Nebraska, each 7-1. Illinois and Michigan State are also 6-2.

Alexis Hart led Minnesota with 16 kills and hit .412 Sunday. Samantha Seliger-Swenson had 39 assists and 10 digs.

Minnesota hit .305 as a team and produced 51 kills. The Gophers also had 14 blocks and 57 digs and held Iowa to a 13.9 hitting percentage, 37 kills and 48 digs.

Announced attendance was 5,209.

The Gophers play next on Wednesday, traveling to Ohio State.

Soccer team rallies

Two goals from April Bockin helped the Gophers soccer team defeat Illinois 4-0 Sunday in Champaign.

Emily Heslin and Sydney Squires also scored for the Gophers.

Kailee Sharp made a single save and got the shutout for the Gophers (10-3-3, 6-2-1).
