The Gophers women's soccer team rose seven spots to No. 11 in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America poll this week. Minnesota is 9-1-2 overall with a six-match winning streak and alone at the top of the Big Ten standings with a 4-0 record.

The Gophers were unranked until rising to No. 18 last week.

Minnesota's April Bockin, a forward from Eden Prairie, was named the conference freshman of the week. She had two goals and an assist as the Gophers beat Purdue and Indiana last weekend, winning both games by 3-1 scores.

Next the Gophers play Wisconsin at 6 p.m. Friday in Madison.

• Nebraska keeper Erika Johnson, a sophomore from North Oaks who played for Mounds View High School, was named the Big Ten defensive player of the week. She had 13 saves combined in matches with Penn State and Ohio State.

• Northern State's Kelsey Chambers, a senior outside hitter from Jordan, was named the American Volleyball Coaches of America national player of the week. She averaged 4.6 kills and 2.3 digs and hit .462 as the Wolves beat MSU Moorhead, Minnesota Duluth and St. Cloud State to improve to 13-0.
