Rey Estes, a redshirt freshman defensive back for the Gophers, announced on Instagram that he is transferring to Illinois.

"New home! Buckle up! Thankful for this opportunity and the chance to continue to play B10 ball!'' Estes wrote. "… Excited to see what the future holds.''

Estes, an East St. Louis, Ill., native, saw action in one game this season after spending the 2017 season as a redshirt. He was recruited as a quarterback but was switched to defensive back last year. He was a three-star recruit coming out of East St. Louis High School

Estes is the third Gophers player who saw limited action this year to transfer. Redshirt junior offensive lineman Quinn Oseland left for San Jose State, and redshirt freshman running back Dominik London transferred to North Dakota.
