The running back amassed 173 all-purpose yards, rushing seven times for 56, catching two passes for 38, including a 22-yard td, and returning three kicks for 79 yards. His 44-yard kick return after the Gophers went up 17-16 with 2:26 left set up purdue with great field position on its winning drive.

Defensive mvp

Thomas Barber, Gophers

The linebacker made 10 tackles, eight solo, had 1.5 tackles for loss, had a half-sack and forced and recovered a fumble.

By the numbers

5-for-17 third-down conversions for the gophers.

4.0 Yards per pass attempt for the gophers, which was half of purdue's average (8.5).

14-7 Minnesota's edge in points off turnovers. The Gophers did not score on Purdue's other two giveaways.
