Gophers punt returner and defensive back Craig James suffered a broken leg in Saturday's 27-0 loss at Northwestern, coach Jerry Kill said Sunday.

Kill said he didn't know which bone James broke but said the sophomore was on crutches. KJ Maye finished the game as the team's punt returner.

The Gophers inserted James at cornerback at Northwestern, with Briean Boddy-Calhoun out because of a knee injury and Jalen Myrick limping a bit. Myrick finished the game, so his injury didn't appear to be serious.

Boddy-Calhoun was a first-team All-Big Ten selection last year. It's uncertain when he'll return. Kill said, "He's battling upstream to get his [injury] situated."
