The 11th-ranked Gophers volleyball team swept Rutgers, winning 25-11, 25-17, 25-18 on Sunday in New Brunswick, N.J.

The victory improved the Gophers to 13-3, 5-1 in the Big Ten.

Daly Santana had 10 kills, Paige Tapp and Alyssa Goehner each had nine, while Hannah Tapp had six and hit .385. Dalianliz Rosado had 22 digs, followed by Santana with 12 and Goehner with 10. Paige Tapp also had a solo block and five block assists.

Minnesota hit .250 to Rutgers' .082 and had 43 kills to the Scarlet Knights' 31. The Gophers added 11 blocks to Rutgers' eight.

The victory over the Scarlet Knights sets up back-to-back matches this week against Wisconsin, Wednesday night in Madison and at 8 p.m. Saturday at the Sports Pavilion.

U soccer strikes late in shutout of Hawkeyes

Goals by Big Ten scoring leader Simone Kolander in the 56th minute and Taylor Stainbrook in the 87th minute game the Gophers a 2-0 soccer victory over Iowa in Iowa City, giving them a weekend sweep of road matches.

The 14th-ranked Gophers (11-2-2, 6-1 Big Ten) outshot the Hawkeyes 10-1 in the first half, putting six shots on goal, and kept the pressure on with 14 second-half shots. The Gophers also had eight corner kicks in the match.

"After the first half, we made the necessary adjustments and found a way to make those key plays that resulted in our two goals in the second half," Gophers coach Stefanie Golan said. "Our players showed a lot of composure even through those frustrating times and were able to pull it off in the end."

Tarah Hobbs recorded the shutout, making two saves.

The Gophers wil be host to home matches against Michigan State on Friday and Michigan on Sunday.
