Gophers miss a sweep as Wolverines win in 10

After a potential game-winning hit in the ninth by the Gophers' Bree Blanchette landed foul by inches, No. 20 Michigan scored twice in the 10th and won 5-3 Sunday at Jane Sage Cowles Stadium, denying the Gophers a three-game softball series sweep.

Kari Dorle hit a three-run homer in the first inning for the Gophers (28-16, 7-8 Big Ten).

Spartans edge Gophers in baseball The Gophers baseball team rallied from a late two-run deficit before losing 5-4 in 10 innings to Michigan State in the series finale in East Lansing, Mich. Jake Bergren's two-run single tied it in the eighth inning for the Gophers (23-19, 7-5 Big Ten), but Michigan State won on Torsten Boss' bases-loaded single in the 10th.

Etc. • The Gophers men's and women's tennis teams closed the regular season with 6-1 victories over Iowa. The men won in Iowa City, the women at the Baseline Tennis Center in Minneapolis.

• The Gophers women's golf team took seventh at the 11-team Lady Buckeye Invitational in Columbus, Ohio. Banchalee Theinthong was the top Gophers finisher, tying for fourth at 12-over 228. OSU won the team title.
