A banged-up team tries again

Preview: The Gophers (14-10, 3-8 Big Ten) could play their seventh game this season without G Amir Coffey, questionable because of a right shoulder injury. He and F Gaston Diedhiou (ankle) were sidelined for Tuesday's 94-80 loss at Iowa. G Dupree McBrayer was limited to eight minutes in the second half because of lingering lower left leg injury, but he's expected to play Saturday. Michigan (18-6, 7-4) bounced back from a hard-fought 92-88 loss to Big Ten leader Purdue with a 58-47 victory Monday over Northwestern.

Players to watch: Gophers F Jordan Murphy had 21 points and 17 rebounds at Iowa. That gave him a nation-best 20 double-doubles this season, one shy of tying Gophers great Mychal Thompson's school single-season record. Michigan F Moe Wagner has scored in double figures six times in eight games, including 27 points in an upset of Michigan State on Jan. 13.

Numbers: The Wolverines lead the Big Ten in scoring defense (63.1 ppg). The Gophers rank 13th (73.5).

The Gophers played with more urgency, but it wasn’t enough to keep them from another conference sweep, and they lost LJ Mooney to injury in the process.
