Cade Tyson scored 24 points to lead the Gophers men’s basketball team to a 78-50 victory over Campbell on Sunday at Williams Arena.
Tyson, who went into the game leading the Big Ten and ranking fourth nationally in scoring (22.6 points per game), was 10-for-15 from the field and added five assists and a team-high seven rebounds.
Four other Gophers scored in double figures as the Gophers (7-5) remained unbeaten in seven games at home under new coach Niko Medved.
“Really good effort by our guys,” Medved said at his postgame news conference. “We talked a lot about coming off finals, going on break tomorrow — sometimes people think it’s a natural tendency to be on break a day early. We clearly talked about having a great mindset here tonight coming in, to end this part of our season. I thought the guys did that.”
Isaac Asuma had 15 points and six assists, Jaylen Crocker-Johnson scored 14 points, Langston Reynolds had 12 and Bobby Durkin 11 points for the Gophers, who shot 58% (30-of-52) from the field and had 26 assists on their 30 field goals.
“That’s just a credit to the way that we practice every single day,” Durkin said at the news conference. “I feel like we have such an emphasis on sharing the ball. ... It doesn’t always show up like it did tonight, but it’s a lot of fun to play and have everyone on the same page.”
The Gophers scored the first 12 points of the game and eventually built a 41-22 lead at halftime.
Jeremiah Johnson scored 17 points to lead the Fighting Camels (5-7), who were coming off a 98-70 loss at No. 7 Gonzaga on Dec. 17. The Camels are in their first season under coach John Andrzejek, who was an assistant on the staff of national champion Florida last season.
