Cade Tyson scored 24 points to lead the Gophers men’s basketball team to a 78-50 victory over Campbell on Sunday at Williams Arena.

Tyson, who went into the game leading the Big Ten and ranking fourth nationally in scoring (22.6 points per game), was 10-for-15 from the field and added five assists and a team-high seven rebounds.

Four other Gophers scored in double figures as the Gophers (7-5) remained unbeaten in seven games at home under new coach Niko Medved.

“Really good effort by our guys,” Medved said at his postgame news conference. “We talked a lot about coming off finals, going on break tomorrow — sometimes people think it’s a natural tendency to be on break a day early. We clearly talked about having a great mindset here tonight coming in, to end this part of our season. I thought the guys did that.”

Isaac Asuma had 15 points and six assists, Jaylen Crocker-Johnson scored 14 points, Langston Reynolds had 12 and Bobby Durkin 11 points for the Gophers, who shot 58% (30-of-52) from the field and had 26 assists on their 30 field goals.

“That’s just a credit to the way that we practice every single day,” Durkin said at the news conference. “I feel like we have such an emphasis on sharing the ball. ... It doesn’t always show up like it did tonight, but it’s a lot of fun to play and have everyone on the same page.”

The Gophers scored the first 12 points of the game and eventually built a 41-22 lead at halftime.

Jeremiah Johnson scored 17 points to lead the Fighting Camels (5-7), who were coming off a 98-70 loss at No. 7 Gonzaga on Dec. 17. The Camels are in their first season under coach John Andrzejek, who was an assistant on the staff of national champion Florida last season.

Grace Grocholski had 18 points and 11 rebounds and Mara Braun scored 16 points as the Gophers women’s basketball team overcame a slow start to earn a 68-43 victory over Drake on Sunday in Des Moines.

The Gophers (9-3), playing for the first time since an 80-34 win over Wyoming on Dec. 14 at Williams Arena, trailed 15-11 after 6½ minutes of the first quarter before rallying for their third consecutive victory.

The Gophers took control with a 9-0 run to open a 20-15 lead on Drake (2-9) with less than two minutes left in the first quarter.

The Gophers, who led 24-19 after the first 10 minutes, opened the second quarter with a 12-0 run to build a 36-19 lead with 6½ minutes left in the first half. The Gophers outscored Drake 25-4 over seven minutes bridging the first and second quarters.

The Bulldogs scored the final six points of the first half to pull within 38-27 at halftime. But the Gophers scored the first seven points of the second half to open an 18-point lead and eventually led by as many as 29 points in the second half.

Finau Tonga added 12 points for the Gophers. Grocholski was 8-for-9 from the field and Tonga was 6-for-8 as the Gophers shot 46% (30-for-65).

Maggie Taylor scored nine points to lead the Bulldogs, who were coming off a 97-77 victory at Indiana State on Dec. 17. That victory ended an eight-game losing streak for the Bulldogs.

The Bulldogs shot only 29% (13-for-45) from the field.

The Gophers are idle until Dec. 29, when they play at Indiana.
