Former Vanderbilt men's basketball guard Payton Willis committed to the Gophers on Saturday night.
The 6-foot-4 Willis will sit out the 2018-19 season, per transfer rules. But he will have two years of eligibility remaining.
As a sophomore this season, Willis averaged 5.1 points in 18.5 minutes while playing in 31 games. He averaged 5.2 points in 17.5 minutes in 35 games in 2016-17, including 12 starts as a freshman.
Out of Fayetteville (Ark..) High School in 2016, Willis was ranked as the second best player in Arkansas as a senior. He played AAU basketball with current Gophers sophomore forward Eric Curry.
Gophers coach Richard Pitino still has two scholarships available to use for next season.
