A rare trip far from home for Terrapins

Preview: The Gophers (12-2, 2-1 Big Ten) have won six in a row going into their first Big Ten home game since a Dec. 5 victory over Nebraska. They resumed conference play with a 59-52 victory Thursday at then-No. 22 Wisconsin, their first in Madison since 2009. The Terrapins (12-3, 3-1), who played their entire nonconference schedule in the state of Maryland, have lost to Virginia and Seton Hall at home and at Purdue. They have won their past three games, including victories over then-No. 24 Nebraska at home and at Rutgers last week.

Players to watch: Gophers G Amir Coffey leads the Big Ten in scoring in league games, averaging 24 points on 48 percent shooting from the field, but he has a combined 53 points combined in his past two conference games. Maryland freshman F Jalen Smith had a team-high 16 points and six rebounds Saturday at Rutgers, and he scored the game-winning layup with 3.8 seconds left to beat the Cornhuskers on Wednesday.

Numbers: Terrapins C Bruno Fernando leads the Big Ten in rebounding in conference games with 13.0, but Gophers F Jordan Murphy is the conference leader on the season with 12.5 per game.
