Gophers' Maggie Keefer named Big Ten's diver of year

Keefer, of Stillwater, won the conference titles in both diving events to lead Minnesota to the team title and was runner-up in the 1-meter at the NCAA meet.

Junior Maggie Keefer of the Gophers was named the Big Ten diver of the year. Keefer, of Stillwater, won the conference titles in both diving events to lead Minnesota to the team title. And, at the NCAA meet, she was the runner-up in 1-meter and sixth in 3-meter diving.

She won 16 diving events this past season and is a six-time All-American at Minnesota.

• The Gophers' women's hockey team went from the preseason USA Today poll to the final one this week ranked No. 1 but, of course, it never lost a game — 41-0-0— en route to its second NCAA title in a row. Boston University and Boston College, the two teams the Gophers beat in the Frozen Four last weekend, were No. 2 and 3, respectively, in Week 24 of the poll.

• The first varsity eight of the Gophers' women's rowing team was named the Big Ten boat of the week. It beat a Tennessee boat by 13.5 second to improve its record to 4-0.

• Minnesota Duluth's Chris Casto, a sophomore defenseman from Hill-Murray, has signed an entry-level contract with the NHL's Boston Bruins.
