From Phil Miller:

Freshman receiver and kick returner Marcus Jones will miss Saturday's game against Iowa with a previously undisclosed knee injury, coach Jerry Kill announced after Thursday's practice.

Jones injured his knee near the end of Wednesday's practice, Gopher spokesman Andy Seeley said, and his condition is still being evaluated. One of the Gophers' most electrifying players, Jones did not practice Thursday and will not suit up Saturday.

Jones, a true freshman from Rolesville, N.C., ranks third in the Big Ten in kick-return average, gaining 28.5 yards per return. He also returned a kickoff 92 yard for a touchdown at Purdue, and had another touchdown nullified by penalty at Michigan.

Jones has also started three games at slot receiver for the Gophers, and has made 9 catches for 142 yards, or 15.8 yards per catch.

Duane Bennett is likely to take Jones' place on kick returns, while Malcolm Moulton is listed as Jones' backup at receiver on the Gophers' depth chart.

Also declared out for Saturday's game: running back Devon Wright, cornerback Troy Stoudermire, linebacker Brendan Beal and offensive linemen Jimmy Gjere and Josh Campion.
