Kelan Martin scored 18 points and No. 22 Butler put on another offensive show in a 93-59 rout of Missouri State — the Gophers' next opponent — on Thursday in the first round of the Puerto Rico Tipoff in San Juan. Andrew Chrabascz also had 18 points for the Bulldogs (2-0), who scored a program-record 144 points last weekend in their opener against The Citadel.

Butler shot 60 percent and made eight of 17 three-point shots, yet committed just eight turnovers.

Dequon Miller scored 15 points to lead the 0-2 Bears, who fell to 6-35 against ranked opponents. They shot just 34 percent, including 2-for-15 behind the arc and 17 of 30 on free throws.

Iowa's McCaffrey wins 350th game

Fran McCaffrey won his 350th career game and Peter Jok scored 20 points to lead six players in double figures as Iowa cruised past Marquette 89-61.

McCaffery (350-252) also won his 99th at Iowa (99-75) in his sixth season since being named head coach in 2010. He's won 20-plus games the previous three seasons, Iowa's longest streak in 15 years, and taken the Hawkeyes to the NCAA tourney the last two.

... Nia Coffey, the former Hopkins High School star, scored 16 points and grabbed 18 rebounds to lead No. 20 Northwestern to a 72-36 win over visiting Idaho State. It was the 23rd career double-double for the 6-1 junior.


Kisner leads RSM Classic

Davis Love III and Davis Love IV did everything together Thursday at Sea Island.

They have the same pre-shot routine. Both birdied the opening hole. Both wound up with an even-par 70. And both have a lot of work to do to make up ground on Kevin Kisner and his opening 7-under 65 at the RSM Classic.

Kisner, who has done everything but win this year, eagled his next-to-last hole at the Plantation Course to take a one-shot lead based on par. Jeff Overton, David Hearn and Tom Hoge each shot 64 on the Seaside Course.

Love's 21-year-old son, who goes by Dru, made his PGA Tour debut at the tournament his father hosts.

Ernst takes one shot lead in LPGA tourney

Austin Ernst took a one-shot lead after the opening round of the CME Group Tour Championship, and South Korean rookie Sei Young Kim has the early upper hand in the race for a $1 million bonus.

Ernst shot a 6-under 66 at Tiburon Golf Club, one shot better than South Korea's Mi Hyang Lee. Kim was another shot back, along with a fivesome of Americans — Jennifer Song, Cristie Kerr, Brittany Lincicome, Jaye Marie Green and Gerina Piller.

... Dan Halldorson, who won the 1980 Pensacola Open for his lone PGA Tour title, died. He was 63.


Tennis: Roger Federer earned his third straight victory at the ATP finals, beating Kei Nishikori 7-5, 4-6, 6-4 to secure the top spot in his group and eliminate the Japanese player. Novak Djokovic reached the semifinals by defeating Tomas Berdych 6-3, 7-5.

Minnesota scene: The Gophers men's hockey team announced the signing of two forwards who are playing in the USHL this season. They are Waterloo's Garrett Wait of Edina and Muskegon's Ryan Pitlick of Plymouth.
