Gophers crush Michigan State in wrestling dual

The No. 2 Gophers wrestling team won nine of 10 matches — three by technical falls and two by major decisions — to rout Michigan State 35-3 Friday night in East Lansing.

David Thorn at 133 pounds, Logan Storley at 174 and Kevin Steinhaus at 184 had the technical falls for the Gophers (7-0, 4-0 Big Ten). Tony Nelson, ranked No. 2 at heavyweight, edged No. 9 Mike McClure 2-0. Michigan State (5-6, 0-3) won only at 141 pounds.

U on lineman's list

Chanhassen offensive lineman Frank Ragnow, one of the most important recruits in this year's class for the Gophers, announced on Twitter (@Knarfwongar) today that he has narrowed his list of college choices to Minnesota, Florida State and Arkansas.

Ragnow is 6-6 and 300 pounds. Signing day is Feb. 5.

• Bob Bowlsby, a wrestler for Minnesota State Moorhead in the early 1970s, and Lauren Brown, a javelin thrower and volleyball player for Winona State from 2007-10, were honored Thursday in San Diego during a banquet celebrating the 40th anniversary of Division II athletics.
