Easton Bertrand and Andrew Wilhite hit two-run homers and Gabe Knowles was 5-for-5 with two RBI as the Gophers routed St. Scholastica 14-4 on Tuesday in nonconference college baseball.
The victory was the 1,300th for Minnesota coach John Anderson. His career record is 1,300-874-3 in 38 seasons — only three active Division I coaches, Mike Martin of Florida State, Mike Fox of North Carolina and Paul Maineri of LSU, have more wins than Anderson, who turns 64 on May 16.
His contract runs through the 2020 season.
• Sophomore forward Blake Lizotte of St. Cloud State signed a three-year entry-level contract with the Los Angeles Kings, the NHL team reported, and will report directly to them. Lizotte, of Lindstrom, Minn., was the Huskies’ second-leading scorer with 14 goals and 28 assists for 42 points.
• East Grand Forks defenseman Trey Ausmus, a freshman this past season, committed to North Dakota on Twitter. His brother, Gage, was the UND captain in 2015-16 when the team won its most recent NCAA title.
• USA Volleyball picked middle blocker Regan Pittman of the Gophers was named one of the 28 college players who will train from June 23-29 at the American Sport Centers in Anaheim, Calif. The program will hold a scrimmage on June 28.
• Gophers left fielder Natalie DenHartog was named the Big Ten freshman of the week. She hit her conference-leading 11th homer of the season and had seven RBI as Minnesota swept Purdue last weekend. She has 39 RBI and a slugging percentage of .813 for the No. 19 Gophers (25-9, 6-0 Big Ten).
