Gophers at a glance: The Gophers (5-1) lost their opening game in Maui to Syracuse on Monday, but they didn't do it without a fight. They stayed with the Orange all game and were within two points with two minutes remaining, before a bad turnover and a lack of execution down the stretch took away the steam. Malik Smith hit four clutch three-pointers and finished with a team-high 16 points. The Gophers had 19 turnovers, by far their worst ballhandling performance this year.

Arkansas at a glance: Ideally, the Razorbacks like to play similarly to the Gophers: utilizing a fast-paced style and pressing extensively. Monday, California was able to ease Arkansas out of that a little bit, while holding the 3-1 Razorbacks to 37.5 percent shooting from the field. Arkansas also badly lost the rebounding battle 48-32, with no player able to collect more than six. Michael Qualls and Anthlon Bell led the team with 21 and 16 points, respectively, but neither started after showing up late to a team meeting, coach Mike Anderson said after Monday's game. The pair is expected to start Tuesday.
