Saturday, by a quick assessment, was the busiest day for Gophers athletic teams since the coronavirus pandemic shut down the sports world last March. Eleven of the University of Minnesota's 25 teams were in action.

The men's and women's swimming teams held a home meet at Jean Freeman Aquatic Center and both hockey teams played at their home rinks as well. The other seven teams competed in six different states. A few highlights:

Five-set volleyball win

The No. 6 Gophers used the same formula as the night before to beat No. 13 Purdue on Saturday in West Lafayette, Ind. — fall behind 2-1, then rely on the team's big outside hitters.

Stephanie Samedy had 20 kills and 10 digs as Minnesota (6-0) outlasted the Boilermakers 25-18, 17-25, 17-25, 25-21, 15-9.

Taylor Landfair had 17 kills for the Gophers and Adanna Rollins 10 kills and 20 digs while setter Melani Shaffmaster had 53 assists and 15 digs.

Seven track titles

Amira Young won the 60 (7.42) and 200 (23.42) in the Husker Quad in Lincoln, Neb. Her 200 time broke her own indoor program record. Other winners: Janielle Josephs, 400 (54.93); Abigail Schaaffe, 600 (1:29.32); Diva Brown, shot put (52-11½), Tess Keyzers, weight throw (65-1½), and on the men's side, Grant Fuller, 600 (1:19.64).

Swimmers sweep

The women swept Iowa (192-107) and Nebraska (193-107) while the men beat Iowa (153-147) to finish their dual meet seasons. Diver Sarah Bacon won the 1-meter event with a pool record of 352.30. Max McHugh won the 100-yard breaststroke in 50.55 seconds, lowering his NCAA-best time this season more.

Women's gymnasts fall

Minnesota lost to the Hawkeyes in Iowa City, 196.000 to 196.375, even though Lexy Ramler won the all-around (39.575) and bars (9.950).

Men's golfers tie twice

After losing to Indiana 4-0-1 the first day, the Gophers tied Penn State and Purdue 2-2-1 the final day in the Big Ten Match Play Championship in Palm Coast, Fla. Will Grevlos won twice, 2 and 1, and 3 and 2.

Women's tennis results

The Gophers went 1-5 in singles against Wisconsin — Lucia de Santa Ana got the win — and 2-1 in doubles against Iowa on the second day of the Wisconsin Invitational.

Men's gymnasts lose

The Gophers lost at No. 3 Ohio State, 401.050 to 387.250. Mike Moran of No. 7 Minnesota won all-around (79.000) and vault (14.500).
