With the end of second quarter campaign fundraising less than a week away, the National Republican Congressional Committee has called on Michele Bachmann to solicit donations from Republican supporters.
Bachmann wrote an email today to supporters of the Republican House campaign committee asking them to "make a critical end-of-quarter contribution." Titled "End Game Is About To Begin," Bachmann's email tried to convey a sense of urgency with four months remaining until Election Day.
"The national Democrats have pledged to spend at least $50 million in a desperate attempt to save their congressional majorities," Bachmann wrote. "In a few weeks, this money will start flowing into targeted districts to attack Republicans and spread phony propaganda against our candidates. The NRCC needs your help NOW to make sure Republican House candidates have the resources they need to fight back!"
Of course, one of the "targeted districts" Bachmann refers to is likely her own — the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee added Bachmann's sixth district challenger Tarryl Clark to its "Red to Blue" campaign earlier this month.
The end-of-quarter June 30 deadline is important because it's the close of books on the first half of the year, and high fundraising figures give the national committees political credibility for both voters and future fundraisers.
Bachmann is one of the House GOP's biggest fundraisers, as the Minnesota Republican has raised more than more than $2.3 million this election cycle, according to federal election records.
