Godin gives up only one hit as Saints stop road slide at 9

Righthander Jason Godin gave up only one hit in eight innings to pitch the St. Paul Saints to a 9-0 victory over the Sioux Falls Pheasants on Thursday night in Sioux Falls, S.D., ending the Saints' nine-game American Association road losing streak.

Godin (7-6) walked five in the eight-inning effort, but the lone hit he gave up was a third-inning single to Pheasants No. 9 hitter Gus Milner. Reliever Marcus McKenzie gave up a single in the ninth inning but finished off the two-hitter.

Ole Sheldon hit a two-run homer in the first inning for the Saints. Josh Alley also drove in two runs, and Brandon Carter had three hits for the Saints.

• The Gophers women's soccer team was picked to finish sixth in the Big Ten Conference in the coaches' preseason poll. Penn State, which is seeking its 13th consecutive Big Ten title, was the favorite in the poll.
