Class 2A

Wayzata is seeking its fourth consecutive state championship. Senior Carly Quast, who committed to Notre Dame, leads the Trojans. She is the defending champion in the 200-yard freestyle and 100-yard backstroke. Edina returns senior Rachel Wittmer, who is defending her 100 butterfly and 50 freestyle gold medals. Edina and Wayzata's relay teams will meet in all three relay races. Last year, Wayzata won the 200 medley relay in record time, while Edina captured the 400 freestyle relay title. In the 500 freestyle, Hornets senior Kelli McCarthy is the only returning medalist and the event's defending champion.

Class 1A

Visitation of Mendota Heights is the three-time defending state champion and has returning medaling swimmers in several events. Visitation also qualified for all three relays and is seeking a fourth consecutive gold medal in the 400 freestyle relay. Breck, last year's runner-up, returns 200 individual medley winner Allyssa Phelps. Mustangs sophomore Saylor Hawkins is the highest returning qualifier in the 1-meter dive, having placed fourth last year. The 100-yard butterfly will feature 2015 runner-up Lorelei Gaertner of Visitation and Breck's Bella Pittinger, who took third.
