We're about 2 minutes from dropping the puck on the first of four girls' hockey state semifinals. The first two are Class 1A semifinals, and the first among those to get the day started is No. 2 seed Breck vs. No. 3 seed South St. Paul. Both teams had little trouble advancing in Wednesday's quarterfinals, with South St. Paul downing Hutchinson 6-0 and Breck knocking off New Ulm 10-0. This one figures to be closer, though if a common opponent (Blake) is any indication, Breck should have the edge. Breck went 2-0-1 vs. Blake this year, including a 3-1 victory in the section title game. South St. Paul, meanwhile, lost 7-2 to Blake in early January.

That said, history doesn't mean everything. Today's semifinals are televised on Ch. 45. Of course, if you can't make it to a TV we'll have all the updates you need right here.

Randle was a strong candidate to play in the All-Star Game on Sunday, but was not chosen and will head to the beach instead.
