LONDON — Gillian Anderson has gone from science fiction to stage acclaim, winning the best-actress trophy at London's Evening Standard Theater Awards.

Jeremy Herrin took the best-director trophy for adaptations of Hilary Mantel's "Wolf Hall" novels, while 15th-century saga "The James Plays" was named best play. "The Scottsboro Boys" took the best-musical prize.
Sunday's ceremony was attended by David and Victoria Beckham, Naomi Campbell, Benedict Cumberbatch and Ian McKellen.
Tom Stoppard was named "greatest living playwright" for a body of work that includes "Arcadia" and "The Real Thing."
