CINCINNATI - The Giants activated right fielder Hunter Pence on Saturday off the disabled list, giving the defending World Series champions a big boost to their struggling offense.
Pence was hit by a pitch during spring training and broke the left forearm just above the wrist. He felt good during a one-week rehab assignment in the minors, prompting the Giants to fly him in for the rest of their series against the Cincinnati Reds.
San Francisco batters have stranded 279 runners, most in the majors, and are hitting only .233 with runners in scoring position. Pence was in the starting lineup Saturday night, batting sixth.
He hit .277 last season with 20 homers and 74 RBI.
The Giants optioned catcher Hector Sanchez to Triple-A Sacramento.
