Rep. Pat Garofalo, R-Farmington, is back in the Cone Of Silence. But he did come out long enough Thursday morning to say that "You can't spell FAILED without DFL!" on his twitter account. The Republican, who chairs the House Education Finance Committee, is just one contributor to the back-and-forth sniping by some legislators and aides at the State Capitol that has been going on for weeks on twitter accounts. The jabs have been a side show to the seriousness that has surrounded the state budget negotiations between Gov. Mark Dayton and Republican legislative leaders. But Garofalo declined to talk about his latest zinger. An aide to Garofalo called back, and said: "He did want me to get back to you, but to also pass along the message that he's in the 'Cone of Silence'. " The "Cone of Silence", a reference to a line from the "Get Smart" TV series, has been used by Dayton and the Republicans to describe their decision not to give details of their private negotiating sessions to try to avert a Friday state government shutdown.
