Gap goes for fit There are few things better than slipping into your favorite jeans. And there are few things as challenging as finding the perfect pair and not paying a premium price.
In the continuing quest for ultimate fit, Gap removed every style of jeans in its stores and is unveiling a completely revamped 1969 denim collection today. Named in honor of Gap's debut year, the collection has 13 new fits for women and men (ranging from skinny to loose) and features classic rinses in hues from darkest ink to light, distressed finishes. Most of the six new women's styles are around $60 and seven new men's styles are $60 to $70.
Patrick Robinson, Gap's head of design, right, called in with the skinny.
Q What's new about the new denim?
A Crazy prices, but also fit and great details [for] jeans you can wear every part of your life. You can wear jeans to a wedding or an expensive restaurant and a guy can be the coolest person in the restaurant and a woman can be the sexiest person in the restaurant. We reflect the American attitude.
Q What should we look for in fit?
A For women, you want to have a rock-star butt and great thighs. Men want to be comfortable and look cool. Guys are strange. I can say that. Guys are all about fit. I'm an authentic straight guy. I don't wear skinny, don't wear loose, don't wear classic. Some guys are obsessed with the loose or skinny -- and they're stuck in that camp. Women, on the other hand, will buy three or four different jeans. They don't get caught in fit camps.
