About the Gophers: The Gophers lost their Big Ten opener at Rutgers on Thursday, shooting 33.3 percent. Guards Rachel Banham, Mikayla Bailey and Carlie Wagner shot a combined 17-for-49. Wagner shot 9-for-24, but made four of Minnesota's nine three-pointers … The Gophers won both meetings with the Nittany Lions last season. The first was an 83-53 win at Williams Arena (Jan. 28) in which Amanda Zahui B. posted a triple-double and Minnesota tied a program record with 15 blocks. The teams wil play only once this season. … Banham owns the Gophers career record for baskets made, with 859. … Minnesota has used five different groups of starters this season. Freshman C Annalese Lamke and 5-10 sophomore transfer Allina Starr, a former standout at DeLaSalle, made their first Gophers career starts against Rutgers.

About the Nittany Lions: Penn State improved to .500 (6-6) by winning its Big Ten opener 79-72 at home over No. 14 Northwestern, putting the Wildcats away with 27 fourth-quarter points. … In that game, the Nittany Lions set a Bryce Jordan Center record with 62 rebounds, with three players getting 10 or more … Freshman G Teniya Page had her second career 20-point performance for the Lady Lions with a career-high 27 points against Northwestern, while Nittany Lions senior Brianna Banks scored 25 and made three steals, giving her 101 in her career. … Page is one of six freshmen listed on the Nittany Lions' roster. … Penn State has yet to win away from home; their defeats include an eight-point loss at Tennessee on Nov. 18.
