Gophers: Last time out, the Gophers (15-9, 4-7 Big Ten) played one of their best defensive games of the season — with an asterisk. Minnesota forced Purdue into 23 turnovers with 17 steals (tying a season high) in a 62-58 victory over the Boilermakers at home. But the Gophers also frittered away another big lead — this time, as great as 15 points with 10:49 to go in the second half. It was the seventh two-possession game the Gophers have played in the conference schedule; six of those were losses. Minnesota has now won three of its past four, and senior guard Andre Hollins is playing some of his best basketball, averaging 21.2 points and 5.2 rebounds in his past six.

Iowa: The Hawkeyes (15-8, 6-4), after coming off a three-game losing streak that featured two games vs. No. 5 Wisconsin, have won two in a row, first beating Michigan on the road before upsetting No. 17 Maryland at home. In the past two games, Iowa has shot 70 percent or greater from two-point range. Junior center Adam Woodbury — who is averaging 7.4 points, 5.5 rebounds and one assist for the season — totaled 27 points, 12 rebounds and eight assists in the past two victories.

The Gophers played with more urgency, but it wasn’t enough to keep them from another conference sweep, and they lost LJ Mooney to injury in the process.
