AN OUTBREAK DEVELOPS

Sep. 21: Tennessee reports unusual fungal meningitis case; patient received spinal steroid shot.

Sep. 28: Second case reported, CDC launches investigation.

Oct. 4: CDC confirms 35 cases in six states, with 5 deaths, all linked to steroid from New England Compounding Center.

Oct. 5: Minnesota begins notifying 831 patients who received steroid from two Twin Cities clinics.

Oct. 6: NECC recalls all products.

Oct. 11: CDC says 14,000 patients may have received the tainted steroid. Death toll rises to 14 nationally.

Oct. 15: CDC links two additional NECC products to fungal infections.

In Minnesota

Five cases, no deaths. Hundreds received the suspect steroid.

In U.S.
