Tyler Toffoli scored twice, backup goaltender Darcy Kuemper made 39 saves and the Los Angeles Kings beat the St. Louis Blues 4-1 on Friday night in a battle of division leaders in St. Louis.
Kuemper, the former Wild goalie, is 4-0-2.
"I was excited to get the opportunity to play against St. Louis," Kuemper said. "You don't always get those opportunities, so I was excited when I found out about it, and I think our whole team was and really got up for it and wanted to prove something out there."
Los Angeles won its fourth straight, including three in a row on the road. The Kings tied the Blues for the second-best record in the Western Conference with 35 points, one behind Winnipeg.
The Blues' Patrik Berglund scored his first goal since April 6, 2017, against Florida. He missed the first 24 games this season while recovering from offseason shoulder surgery.
Ottawa 6, N.Y. Islanders 5: Ryan Dzingel's second goal of the game broke a tie early in third period for the visiting Senators, who ended a seven-game losing streak. Ottawa goalie Craig Anderson allowed five goals on 18 shots before he was pulled midway through the second period. Backup Mike Condon stopped all 19 shots he faced, including Jordan Eberle's point-blank attempt in the closing seconds. Anders Lee had two goals for New York, which lost at home in regulation for the first time this season.
N.Y. Rangers 5, Carolina 1: Michael Grabner scored three goals, including two late empty-netters, as the Rangers won for the ninth time in 10 home games.
Winnipeg 7, Vegas 4: Kyle Connor scored twice, and Mark Scheifele and Patrik Laine each had a goal and two assists in the Jets' come-from-behind victory over the visiting Golden Knights.
