Justin Upton hit a grand slam in the eighth inning to back a strong pitching performance by Justin Verlander, and the surprising Detroit Tigers beat the host Baltimore Orioles 5-2 Friday night for their fourth straight victory.

Jim Adduci also homered for the Tigers, who have won six of seven despite unloading three stars before the nonwaiver trade deadline. Detroit's four-game winning streak matches a season high.

Verlander struck out 10 and gave up two runs and six hits over seven innings. He's 8-1 at Camden Yards.

Tim Beckham went 4-for-4 with a home run for the Orioles.

Trailing 2-1 in the eighth, the Tigers loaded the bases on two singles and a walk for Upton, who hit his third grand slam of the season.

Boston 3, Chicago 2 (11): Mitch Moreland homered with two outs in the 11th inning, lifting the Red Sox over the White Sox at Fenway Park. Moreland, a defensive replacement in the 10th, drove a pitch from Aaron Bummer for his 14th homer of the season.

Cleveland 7, New York 2: Trevor Bauer won his third consecutive start, Jaime Garcia was chased in the fifth inning of his Yankees debut, and the host Indians extended New York's losing streak to four. Bauer allowed one run in seven innings, on Todd Frazier's fifth-inning home run.

Houston 16, Toronto 7: Alex Bregman hit a two-run homer and Marwin Gonzalez added a three-run shot as part of a nine-run fourth inning in the Astros' rout of the visiting Blue Jays.

Seattle 5, Kansas City 2: James Paxton tied a Mariners record by winning his seventh start in a row as Seattle beat the host Royals. He did not allow a hit until Mike Moustakas' single with one out in the fifth, and Brandon Moss' two-out single ended Paxton's scoreless streak at 21 innings.

Los Angeles 8, Oakland 6: The Angels scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh to take the lead. Yunel Escobar's infield single drove in the third run and put Los Angeles ahead 7-6.

National League

Washington 4, Chicago 2: Daniel Murphy hit two home runs to back Tanner Roark, and the Nationals beat the host Cubs in the opener of a series between division leaders. Murphy hit a two-run homer in the first and connected off Kyle Hendricks again leading off the sixth for a 3-0 lead.

Los Angeles 6, New York 0: Yu Darvish, making his first start for the Dodgers, and two relievers combined to shut out the host Mets. Darvish gave up only three hits and one walk in seven innings while striking out 10. Solo homers by Chris Taylor in the first inning and Yasiel Puig in the second gave Darvish a 2-0 lead. Chase Utley hit a two-run homer for Los Angeles in the sixth.

Cincinnati 3, St. Louis 2: Joey Votto drove home a pair of runs with a double and a single, and Asher Wojciechowski went five innings in his return to the rotation, leading the host Reds over the Cardinals.

Atlanta 5, Miami 3: R.A. Dickey won for the first time in seven starts, Nick Markakis hit a three-run homer and the Braves overcame Giancarlo Stanton's two home runs to beat the Marlins in Atlanta. Stanton hit his 34th and 35th homers, tying Yankees slugger Aaron Judge for most in the majors.

Colorado 4, Philadelphia 3: Nolan Arenado hit a solo homer in the bottom of the seventh inning and DJ LeMahieu had an RBI single in the eighth as the Rockies rallied to edge the Phillies.

Pittsburgh 10, San Diego 6: Gregory Polanco hit a go-ahead, three-run homer during a six-run seventh inning as the host Pirates rallied for a victory over the Padres.

Arizona 2, San Francisco 1: Paul Goldschmidt had three hits, including an RBI triple, to help rookie Anthony Banda get his first career win for the Diamondbacks, who edged the host Giants.

Interleague

Milwaukee 2, Tampa Bay 0: Brandon Woodruff allowed seven hits in 6⅓ innings of his major league debut and Orlando Arcia homered and scored twice as the visiting Brewers beat the Rays.
