'SWEET LAND'

Sweet indeed is this very local tale, based on Minnesotan Will Weaver's story and filmed in the state in 2005. Gruff Norwegian bachelor farmer Olaf (Tim Guinee) seeks a wife from the old country; through a mixup, he's sent a would-be bride from Germany. Inge (Elizabeth Reaser, pictured) faces much anti-German prejudice in the wake of World War I, which delays the wedding but can't hold back the growing feelings within Olaf. Alan Cumming, Alex Kingston and Ned Beatty play colorful supporting characters, but half the fun for local viewers is spotting the Twin Cities theater veterans dotting the cast, including Stephen Pelinski, Kirsten Frantzich, Karen Landry and Stephen Yoakam. The screening is part of the District del Sol Music and Movies series. (Music by Niños de Guadalupe at 7:30 p.m. Thu., followed by the movie. Castillo Park, 149 Cesar Chavez St., St. Paul. Free. 651-222-6347.)
