Bullseye the Target dog: A fan of Barcelona's the Pinker Tones? (Star Tribune photo by Kyndell Harkness)

Just when I was about to beg/scream/shout for a moratorium on holiday music in Twin Cities stores -- for real, the incessant drumbeat of Christmukkah is ruining some once-beloved tunes for me; can't we please have a Black-Out Friday? -- along comes Target with a fresh new collection that you can download for free here.

Here's the playlist:

  1. "Tiny Tree Christmas" by Guster
  2. "Toy Jackpot" by Blackalicious
  3. "Snow Is Falling" by Darker My Love
  4. "Perfect Gift" by Natalie Hemby
  5. "10,000 Watts" by Crystal Antlers
  6. "You'll Never Find My Christmas" by Bishop Allen
  7. "Get Down for the Holidays" by Jenny O.
  8. "Mrs. Claus Ain't Got Nothin' On Me" by Little Jackie
  9. "Electronic Santa" by Bret McKenzie
  10. "Got Something for You" by Best Coast/Wavves
  11. "It's Christmas" by Coconut Records
  12. "Party Hard" by Little Isidore
  13. "Super Mama" by The Pinker Tones
  14. "Un Regalo Para Mí" by Ceci Bastida

The list is eclectic and very below-the-radar for a big-box store, so kudos to Target, who'll be using these songs in ads and other promotions through the holiday season.

It includes a couple well-respected veterans -- Boston rockers Guster and northern California hip-hop duo Blackalicious -- a duet between indie-rock lovebirds Bethany Cosentino (of Best Coast) and Nathan Williams (of Wavves) and even celeb cameos by Jason Schwartzman (performing as "Coconut Records") and Bret McKenzie of Flight of the Conchords.

Target isn't the only e-tailer getting into the holiday spirit -- Amazon.com will offer a free download each day starting Dec. 1 as part of its "25 Days of Free" promotion. Click here for details.
