Running back Adrian Peterson was able to participate in a portion of the Vikings practice today and "there's a probability that he will be able to play" Sunday against Buffalo, according to coach Leslie Frazier. Peterson is listed as questionable on the injury report, meaning there is a 50-50 chance he plays.
Peterson suffered a sprained right ankle in the second quarter last Sunday at Washington and did not return. He also sat out of practice on Wednesday and Thursday. "We’re going [to] take him out on Sunday morning, just to see how he moves around, make sure he’s confident in what he has to do to play in the game," Frazier said. "He did a much better job than we thought he would today, so we’re optimistic."
Frazier said that if Peterson can play "he would definitely start."
"Now, what his workload would be would be determined by what he tells us, how he’s feeling," Frazier said. "'Do I need a break this series or a break this play?' Or, 'Hey, coach I can finish this series.' So it would be our communicating with him, just to see what he can and can’t do.”
Other injury updates:
- Defensive end Ray Edwards (sprained right ankle) was limited in practice after sitting out Wednesday and Thursday. Frazier said a decision on his status will be made Sunday before the game. Edwards is listed as questionable. If he can't go, Brian Robison figures to start at left end.
- Left guard Steve Hutchinson (broken right thumb) also did not practice for the third day in a row and it will be a game-time decision on whether he goes. Hutchinson, listed as questionable, had a plastic cast on his hand today. If he can't play, rookie Chris DeGeare likely would get the start.
- Rookie cornerback Chris Cook (swelling in both knees) won't play Sunday for the second week in a row, Frazier said. Cook said today he expects to return this season. "[It's just] for this game," Frazier said. "Just advice that we got from the doctors where he needs to rest. He needs to get off his legs, so that’s what we’re going to do. Try to get him back next week.”
- Wide receiver Sidney Rice took part in practice after sitting out for a second consecutive Thursday in order to rest his surgically repaired hip. He is listed as probable for Sunday.
- Wide receiver Percy Harvin did not practice for the second day in a row because of another round of migraine headaches. He was sent to see the doctor on Friday and is listed as questionable. "We’ll get a chance to visit with him [Saturday] just to see where he is," Frazier said. "He’ll probably be a game-time decision as well. We’ll go from there." Frazier does not know if this episode of migraines is any worse than what Harvin has experienced in the past. "We just have to continue to deal with it and hopefully manage it as we go forward," Frazier said, adding Harvin is better today than he was Wednesday or Thursday. Harvin began experiencing this latest headache during Wednesday's practice.
- Wide receiver Bernard Berrian (groin) had a "great week" of practice, according to Frazier, and should be good to go after sitting out last Sunday's game. Berrian also did not play three weeks ago at Chicago and was limited to one series and one play two weeks ago against Green Bay.
- Wide receiver Greg Lewis did not practice for the third day in a row but Frazier said there is a possibility he could play against Buffalo. Lewis is listed as questionable.
- Quarterback Brett Favre (ankle, neck, right shoulder) was a full participant in practice today after taking Wednesday off and being limited Thursday.
- Safety Jamarca Sanford (hamstring) is listed as questionable and safety Eric Frampton (hamstring) is probable.
