Four players for Iowa Wild named to AHL all-star hockey teams

Four Iowa Wild players — goalie Kaapo Kahkonen, defenseman Brennan Menell and forwards Sam Anas and Gerry Mayhew — were named to American Hockey League postseason all-star teams Wednesday.

Kahkonen, Menell and Anas made the first team, Mayhew the second.

Kahkonen had a league-high 25 wins and seven shutouts, and his goals-against average (2.07) and save percentage (.927) also ranked among the best in the AHL. Overall, he went 25-6-3.

Menell's 42 assists were tops among AHL defensemen, and his 47 points finished second. Anas led the AHL in assists (50) and points (70), and Mayhew scored a league-high 39 goals.

Mayhew, Menell and Kahkonen also made their NHL debuts during the season with the Wild.

U tennis honors

The Gophers' Stefan Mlicevic, a senior from Belgrade, Serbia, made the All-Big Ten first team in men's tennis. He was 14-8 in singles, 4-5 in doubles.

Redshirt freshman Dalila Said, of Cairo and a transfer to Minnesota from Georgia Tech, made the All-Big Ten women's tennis team. She was 9-2 in singles, 8-3 in doubles.

Track awards

Forty-six MIAC athletes were named to the All-America team for the NCAA Division III indoor track and field season by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.

Two men and one woman received the honor in two events: Matthew Wilkinson of Carleton (3,000, 5,000), Kyle Lichttenegger of St. Mary's (60, long jump) and Delia Labatt of Bethel (400, 4x400 relay).
