Former Gophers linebacker Damien Wilson is headed to the Super Bowl as a member of the Kansas City Chiefs.
Wilson, 26, signed with the Chiefs as a free agent in the offseason and has started every game this season. He had seven tackles (six solo) and one tackle for loss in Sunday's AFC Championship Game.
He will be the first Gopher to compete in the Super Bowl since two other defensive players, De'Vondre Campbell and Ra'Shede Hageman, played for Atlanta in the 2016 Super Bowl. The last Gopher to win a Super Bowl was Matt Spaeth with Pittsburgh in 2009.
Wilson played at Minnesota in 2013 and '14 after transferring from Jones Community College in Mississippi. In 2014 he led the Gophers in tackles and was an All-Big Ten first-team selection. He was a fourth-round draft pick of Dallas in 2015.
Not again
Chiefs receiver Tyreek Hill dropped to his knees and pretended to urinate like a dog on the field during player introductions.
It was reminiscent of what Mississippi receiver Elijah Moore was flagged for in a college game against Mississippi State on Thanksgiving.
Etc.
• San Francisco running back Tevin Coleman was carted off in the second quarter vs. Green Bay because of a right shoulder injury and did not return.
• Aaron Rodgers' two touchdown passes Sunday for the Packers gave him 40 in his playoff career, breaking Brett Favre's franchise record of 39. Rodgers also has seven consecutive playoff games with at least two TD throws, one shy of Joe Flacco's record.
