Former Gophers kicker Andrew Harte has transferred to Rutgers, where he will have the chance to become a starter for Jerry Kill's new team this fall.

Harte can compete right away as a graduate transfer, and Rutgers' kicker competition is wide open. Harte joins Kill, who is the team's new offensive coordinator, under second-year head coach Chris Ash.

An Illinois native, Harte saw limited action in three seasons for the Gophers. He spent two seasons behind Ryan Santoso and last year behind Emmit Carpenter, the Big Ten Kicker of the Year.

At Rutgers, David Bonagura made 10-of-14 field goal attempts last season, but his longest made kick was 41 yards. He missed spring practice with a back injury and will be competing with Harte and two incoming freshmen this fall.

The Gophers defeated Rutgers 34-32 last October – on a last-minute field goal by Carpenter – but the teams aren't scheduled to play this year.

The remaining schedule is favorable, but their hopes of a late-season run were dulled by a home loss to the Terrapins.
