Flynn hip surgery scheduled for today

Wolves point guard

Jonny Flynn is scheduled for surgery in Colorado today to fix that hip that bothered him the end of last season and kept him out of Las Vegas Summer League games.

Don't know yet exactly what the nature of the injury is yet, but that 3 to 4 month timeline first reported by YahooSports! last night sounds right.

Expect more details from the Wolves on the surgery later today after it's done.

So the big question from all this:

Why trade Ramon Sessions now, why not wait, start him and try to increase his value for more than just saving some money to a team in need of a point guard mid season?

Well, that's a good question.

Probably because they already committed themselves to Luke Ridnour, who last week signed a four-year, $16 million contract very similar to the one Sessions signed with the Wolves last September.

And perhaps because they found another team willing to take the contracts of both Sessions and Hollins, so...SOLD!

If Flynn is out 3 to 4 months, that means he'll miss all of preseason and possibly the first month of the season.

Look for the Wolves to try to sign a veteran point guard to the league minimum for one year to provide insurance.

Yes, they also have Sebastian Telfair, don't they? But judging by the wording of yesterday's team press release announcing the trade -- they traded Sessions, Hollins and the Wolves' own second round pick in 2013 for "the contracts" of West and Telfair -- it seems obvious that Telfair isn't in their plans and they clearly knew Flynn needed surgery before making that trade.

The always helpful and diligent Phil Miller is helping out and will be on this story the rest of today.
