Flynn could be playing within a week

Rehab stint in D-League still best bet

November 29, 2010 at 8:49PM

Greetings. Kent Youngblood here.

You could tell Jonny Flynn was feeling pretty good by how badly he took defeat in Sunday's post-practice 3-on-3 scrimmage. It was his first real, true competition in the months since his hip surgery. So when his team lost the final game and he stalked off towards the locker room, that had to be a good sign.

It was.

Another step was taken Monday, when Flynn took part in all the scrimmaging in practice for the first time. Afterward, he proclaimed himself very close to returning to action. How close?

"It's a big possibility I could be playing within a week," he said. "Whether that's the (Developmental League) or the NBA. Get one game in the D-League, a rehab game. so, within the next week, there is a high possibility I'll be playing."

It would be almost exacly four months since his late July surgery to repair a torn labrum in his left hip.

I'll be writing on this in more depth for tomorrow's paper. But Flynn said a D-League tuneup was almost a certainty. Indeed, he has already dialed up the Sioux Falls Skyforce on the internet, looking at the schedule and the roster.

He said he'd like to play in a Skyforce home game. Their schedule reveals home games slated for Friday, Saturday, next Tuesday and Next Friday.

"I can't wait to go down there, get on the court, be out there," Flynn said. "That's my opening day. The opening day for the guys was about a month ago. My opening day is going to be (with) the Skyforce."

Have a good day.
