Timberwolves owner Glen Taylor said there have been talks with Flip Saunders' family about scheduling a memorial service that the team can attend.

Saunders, the Wolves president of basketball operations and head coach, died Sunday at the age of 60.

The Wolves open the season in Los Angeles on Wednesday night and play in Denver on Friday night before returning to the Twin Cities. Their home opener is Monday night against Portland; Taylor said there would be a pregame tribute to Saunders on Monday.

Taylor said there was also talk of a public Twin Cities memorial, but he didn't expand on that.

Pending league approval, the team will wear a patch honoring Saunders on their uniform or warmups.

Taylor said he has divided the duties of Saunders between General Manager Milt Newton, who will handle the GM duties, and interim coach Sam Mitchell, who will coach.
